Winter Reflections on a New Year

“It seems like everything sleeps in winter,
but it’s really a time of renewal and reflection.”
— Elizabeth Camden

Winter time really makes you think about things. How the weather changes and the clouds begin to form amazing pieces that fall from the sky. From ice chunks, to snowflakes, to feathers... Each one beautiful and unique in it's own way. That's the beauty of each season, something new yet familiar, setting the space for the next one.

When We Begin Noticing

Have you ever just stopped everything and realized you're living day to day, going through the motions but not really living?? That maybe you're not giving yourself the love and nourishment your body deserves, treating material items better than you treat yourself,
such as your houseplant or your phone...

If we can focus on the little things inside of us... those little yet really big things... Each breath we take, how we moved from one place to the other, the emotions we've felt to even the smallest details... Really just take time to pay attention to our bodies, maybe we can learn to be truly grateful and really start living this LIFE.

Today We Saved a Bee

Today we saved a Bee!

I was in the garage and noticed a bug on the floor...which I was ready to squish because I thought it was a spider! I had my son grab the flashlight so I could take a better look at it, and I noticed it was a little bee, just laying there. I put a clear cup over it (so it couldn't fly at my face and sting me lol) and I also wanted to see if it was even still alive. The little guy slowly started walking around, so I slipped a piece of paper under the cup and my son carried it to our backyard. We set it down, removing the cup so it could go where it wanted. The bee started crawling, but then tipping over and falling everywhere. I quickly made it a small bowl of sugar water and the next few happenings were amazing! It crawled right up to the bowl and started drinking. I saw its tongue out and everything haha. It drank for a good minute, and then crawled onto a piece of moss next to it.

My son brought over some flowers from the Mexican Orange Bush we have in the corner of our yard, and the bee knew just what to do. Crawl on them, give himself a good clean, and rest. He sat there for a good amount of time, maybe 15 minutes or so. Then he crawled to the top of the flowers and acted as if he was King of the Garden. Then flew away! I guess the lil guy just need some good TLC and that sugar water helped clean him right up. It was so fascinating watching the bee and feeling those good feelings inside, that we helped him survive. Now he can go pollinate flowers and bring good to the world!

Finding Hidden Treasures When Least Expected

You know when you just have one of those days...you could really use some chocolate but there's none in the house? Well I decided to clean out our pantry and organize it a bit more...sorting the boxes of cereal and crackers, checking expiration dates, and re-stacking the oatmeal packets...

I had found a mini Snicker Bar hiding in one of the baskets!! It just knew that I was meant to find it that day. I enjoyed the tiny but oh so delicious piece of chocolate, and of course, after I ate it, I wish I had more :) I love finding joy in the simple things. They really make life more enjoyable!

What are some hidden treasures you've found when they were least expected?

Live Your Life - In This Present Moment

Just a little piece of art I made. A reminder to live in the present and find joy in every corner. Walk your path as best as you can, and never give up. Find happiness in the little things. Make your own rainbows. Enjoy your life!

Predictions on Groundhog Day 2018

Do you think Punxsutawney Phil's predication of 6 more weeks of Winter will come true?
It is said that his predication's are 39% accurate so we'll see what happens this year! I know a lot of people are ready for the sunshine and warmth, and flowers and Spring to Summer adventures, but I kind of like the idea for another 6 weeks of Winter. This season is so slow and cozy...it really makes you stop to enjoy the indoors. I love to get out, so I admit I do get a little stir-crazy inside, but Spring and Summer will come when it does, and I will enjoy the things when it's time for that season.

I always like to do a little crafting fun on these holidays, and even though my son is getting older, he still enjoys them every now and then. Today's activities could be suited for any age really, but we started it with a simple book we picked up from the library: "Punxsutawney Phyllis" by Susanna Leonard Bill. I thought the book was cute, but my son's opinion was "meh" I guess it was deemed 'too young' for his aging 10 year old self haha. I do like that the book had some informational History in the back though!
Next he filled out a 'Make A Predication' Worksheet that I printed off free from teacherspayteachers.com and he predicted the same that Punxsutawney Phil's predicted... another 6 weeks of Winter! He really doesn't like Summer because of the heat haha. The fun craft we did was a silly little Groundhog Head made with hearts-because it's February! The head is a large heart upside, with half hearts for ears, a heart nose, upside down heart teeth, and fun googly eyes! I think he's pretty cute =)
What kind of fun did you get in to today?

Pillows For My Couch

Year after year I have been trying to figure out how to add pieces of decor to our little apartment, on a budget. We purchased our couch for just $75, in near brand new condition, and our coffee table was free! But the pillows that came with our couch, were just ugly to me so I knew I needed to make a change. I was browsing on Amazon for couch pillow covers, wanting to find something I would love but wouldn't break the bank. I came across the "Love You More" pillow cover and knew I had to have it. Lucky for me, it was on sale for just $3!! It's the perfect pillow cover for my couch and it fit my original 18"x18" couch pillow perfectly! It was a little snug to get the pillow in there because of the zipper closure on the bottom not being wide enough. But I got the pillow in there an it's nice and secure, looking beautiful on my couch.

While finding the "Love You More" pillow cover, I came across an adorable Red and White Moose couch pillow cover. I thought it would look great for the holidays and the price was so affordable, I made the purchase. But when I received the Moose pillow cover, I was extremely dissapointed. It was nothing of what the description or the Amazon photo showed. The fabric was described to be cotton linen, and the photo shows it has a burlap look to it. But the cover I received is definitely not cotton linen or burlap, it's more of a silk-polyester material. Kind of like what a gym sack backpack is made of. So you could imagine my disappointment. The pillow cover went from looking fancy in cotton burlap on Amazon, to arriving looking like a cutout from an old sack. BUT...after I put the cover on my couch pillow...most of my disappointment went away. It still looks beautiful on my couch, and though I do wish it had the cotton/burlap fabric look, I have grown to love the pillow and I think it ties my decor together nicely.

What do you think? Do mismatched pillows suit my couch?
Either way, I love it!

*I did NOT receive items to review, It was a purchase I made on my own.*

*Brown pillow IS from previous review of the Qi Pillow
*Design Pillow I purchased at Kohl's discounted for less than $5!

It's Time For A Real Toxic Chemical Reform #generationgood

Did you know that, under the current law of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) can only test a small fraction of the over 85,000 chemicals around, and only 5 of those chemicals have been banned/restricted?!!? There has been a huge amount of scientific evidence linking to chemicals and disease, yet the TSCA had not even been updated since 1976. The amount of chemicals has increased since then, and so finally, the Leader of the Senate has said that the TSCA reform legislation will be considered in the next week or two.

Did you know that you can email your State Senator to let them know you would like to make a meaningful change and get those nasty toxic chemicals off store shelves?!
Tell the Senator that reform should only go forwards!!

Click HERE to send the Senator an email to help
change the way chemicals are in our world.

One by one, we can make a difference!

Given Only 15 Months To Live ...

3 Months after the birth of her first child, in 2005, Heather Von St. James was given only 15 months to live. She was diagnosed with Pleural Mesothelioma, a deadly cancer caused by asbestos.

Today, nine years later, she lives to tell her story.

Watch her story below.

Since Heather's father was a construction worker, she became exposed to the asbestos fibers that were contained on her father's jacket. She loved to wear his coat when he would come home, little did she know it would make her sick in the future. Because asbestos was used in building materials in the 1970's (and has still not been banned from use in the U.S. and Canada), there could be a lot of potential cases. Heather is living a miracle. After a treatment to remove her left lung, and living years in recovery, she lives to tell her story. With Heather's story, we can help share the awareness on Mesothelioma and Asbestos, and learn how it can be avoided.

Please share Heather's story on behalf of today, Cancer Survivor's Day.

You can find more information on Heather by visiting

You can also find her on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+

Check out How We Had A Happy Halloween House Party with Rice Krispies!

Check out How We Had A Happy Halloween House Party with Rice Krispies!

We began the night before, me and my son made a ton and I mean a TON of Rice Krispie treats. House Party provided us with 4 boxes of cereal-we used 3 of the boxes and made about 5 trays of treats. The provided Rice Krispie bowl scrapers worked really well to cut square treats! I cut shapes of Ghosts, Pumpkins, Frankenstein Heads, and people shapes-to make their own Dracula, Zombie, Mummie, ect.

Other fun foods we had were a Pumpkin veggie platter, cute little sandwiches, and Cheese balls.

When the kids arrived all decked out in their costumesI had them decorate their cups with stickers and write their names on them. I poured them some Spooky Halloween Punch and gave them a fun pumpkin straw. Then we started on decorating the Rice Krispie treats. I provided orange and chocolate frosting, gummy worms, gum drops, mini M&M's, and a ton of different sprinkles.

Each kid made their own "contest treat" and the adults judged them at the end. I used the Rice Krispie "Best of" award certificates for each treat to be a winner, each one winning a different category; For example: most hilarious, most creepy, ect. And each kid got to pick one of each prize, from the prize bowl - Which included: stickers, Halloween rings, fake Dracula teeth, glow bracelets, and glow in the dark lizards. They also got to take their winning treat home with them.

After this, we played "Guess The Monster Parts" where I had a box with separate containers of gross feeling foods inside. The kids took turns feeling each item, then had to guess which part of the monster they thought it was. Blanched grapes were eyeballs, homemade "Gak" was snot, carrots were bones, cooked pasta were intestines, and baked cucumber slices were ears. This game was full of laughter and many "ew!!"s  haha. Then the kids did a coloring contest where they had to color their pumpkin and draw a face on it, all while their eyes were closed!! or at least not looking at the paper ;)
The winner of this won a box of Rice Krispies cereal!

We all had a lot of fun at our Halloween party!
I think it turned out really great!!

*Thank you House party for providing me with cereal, bowl scrapers, and a chef hat, to get this party started!

Our Weekend Getaway + Photos

A bit of an update! As I've been extremely behind in my blogging again :)

So my lil man started Kindergarten last week!!!! I can't believe my baby grew up so fast. I felt so much anxiety weeks before, worrying about how he would do in Kindergarten..away from me...since he has always been around me. I taught him preschool! So Kindergarten was a HUGE change. So me and the hubby decided he should have a mini vacation of his own before school started..also to help with the time away-to come-with school n all. So lil man got to spend the weekend at his grandmas! He enjoyed it. Picked berries, snapped peas and beans, went garage selling, bought a cool play dough cake maker, got McDonald's, and went to see Madagascar 3 in theaters! And that was just the main things. lol he had some fun time in and even wanted to stay an extra day (or 9 as he said haha) so that made me feel a lot better, realizing how well he can do away from his mama. Me and the hubbs had a great time too! The first day, I had it all to myself to do whatever I wanted because hubby had a thing to go to.
But day 2, we traveled for the day, went to some nice restaurants, I got my hair done,
and had fun! Our home time was nice too. We had some drinks and played
Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the Xbox. It was so much fun.

Here's some photos of our travels ;)

Rustic Red Goodwill Revamps

Found some great things to revamp, purchased at Goodwill. They were half price so I paid less then $3 for three things! :)

The Before: A cork reminder board, a picture frame, and a chicken napkin holder!

The After:  As you can see, I've got a red theme goin on haha. I liked the country rustic feel to it.
And this isn't a GREAT picture of the frame (I had painted one from an earlier time too so got this one to match..) But you can kinda get the feel for it. The star garland was what lil man made for the 4th of July :)
